Harmony Gold Mining Company has appointed Alwyn Pretorius and James Boardman as independent non-executive directors, effective October 15, 2026, the company announced on October 16.
The board said it is satisfied that both appointees meet the applicable independence requirements and that fit and proper assessments, as required by the JSE Listings Requirements, have been performed with satisfactory outcomes. Harmony also confirmed there are no positive statements to report regarding integrity information in their directors’ declarations.
Pretorius is a former mining executive and qualified engineer with extensive international leadership experience. He held several senior roles at Newmont Corporation, including regional senior vice-president for Africa and South America and managing director of Papua New Guinea. Prior to Newmont, he served in various executive positions at Harmony between 2006 and 2015, including chief operating officer.
Boardman is a chartered financial analyst with experience in capital markets, private equity and corporate advisory. His career includes roles at the JSE, Bain & Company and private capital investment firms, bringing expertise in valuation, risk management and corporate governance.
“We are pleased to welcome Pretorius and Boardman to the Harmony board,” said Harmony chairperson Dr Patrice Motsepe. “Their combined experience will further strengthen the board’s oversight capabilities and contribute to Harmony’s global competitiveness and focus on safety, operational excellence, disciplined growth and long-term value creation.”
