The EFCC Ilorin Zonal Directorate has arrested 10 suspected illegal miners along the Ilorin Ogbomosho axis.
The operation was part of a strategic crackdown on the unlawful excavation and transportation of solid minerals.
The agency acted on "actionable intelligence on illegal mineral excavation and transportation along the Ilorin–Ogbomosho axis."
The sting targeted individuals moving Nigeria's natural resources without authorization.
The suspects include nine truck drivers and one escort caught transporting the minerals. The EFCC confirmed, “The suspects, comprising nine truck drivers and one escort, were intercepted and taken into custody during the operation.”
Officials recovered lithium, tin, and lepidolite during the raid.
Investigations revealed that "the suspects had no requisite licences, permits or approvals to mine or transport the solid minerals recovered from them."
Several loaded trucks were seized and moved to the commission’s custody for further processing.
The EFCC is now investigating the full extent of this illegal mining network.
The agency remains committed to stopping economic sabotage through unlicensed mining. It stated the 10 suspects "would be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of investigations."
