A new power infrastructure project comprising a 7.5MVA injection substation and more than 3.5 kilometres of new distribution lines has been flagged off in Rigasa, Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State, in a major intervention facilitated by the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Ideological Group (BAT-IG).
It is expected to improve electricity supply and stimulate economic activities in the densely populated community.
The project, being implemented by the Niger Delta Power Holding Company Limited (NDPHC) in collaboration with the Kaduna State Government following the intervention and facilitation of BAT-IG, comprises a two-kilometre 11kV line, a 1.5-kilometre 33kV line and a new 7.5MVA 33/11kV injection substation.
The groundbreaking ceremony, held in Rigasa on Friday, was performed on behalf of Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, by the Deputy Governor, Dr. Hadiza Sabuwa Balarabe.
The intervention, facilitated by BAT-IG in response to the longstanding electricity challenges in the community, is expected to strengthen the local electricity distribution network and improve power availability for households, businesses and other users across Rigasa.
Speaking at the ceremony, Balarabe said improved electricity supply would help businesses expand, enhance productivity and reduce the burden on households, stressing that the state government would continue to pursue infrastructure development through strategic partnerships.
The project comes against the backdrop of longstanding electricity challenges in Rigasa, where residents have, according to the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Ideological Group, endured inadequate power supply for about 15 years.
The Convener of BAT-IG, Comrade Bamidele Atoyebi, said the intervention was initiated following concerns raised by residents and represented the group’s effort to translate political support into tangible community development.
Atoyebi said the group’s intervention was driven by the belief that political participation should extend beyond campaigns and electoral mobilisation to include practical solutions to problems affecting communities.
“When you identify a problem, you do not simply talk about it, you find a solution to it,” Atoyebi said.
He added that the group had identified and implemented more than 100 interventions across different sectors, saying the Rigasa project was “another chapter” rather than the end of its intervention efforts.
“Where there is a problem, we can help solve it. We will not merely complain about it. We will organise, mobilise and act,” he said.
The ceremony was attended by Engr. Bello Babayo Bello, Executive Director, Networks, NDPHC, who represented the company’s Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Engr. Jennifer Adighije. NDPHC’s official management records confirm Adighije as Managing Director/CEO and Bello as Executive Director, Networks. (ndphc.net)
Also present was Hon. Patrick Obahiagbon, Executive Director, Strategy and Commercial, NDPHC, as well as the District Head of Rigasa and Dangaladiman Zazzau, Arc. Mohammed Aminu Idris. NDPHC officially lists Obahiagbon as Executive Director, Strategy and Commercial, while Kaduna State and recent reports identify Arc. Mohammed Aminu Idris as District Head of Rigasa. (ndphc.net)
Other dignitaries included the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Prince Lateef Olasunkanmi Fagbemi, SAN, who is the Grand Patron of BAT-IG, and Distinguished Senator Abu Ibrahim, also associated with the group’s leadership. Fagbemi was appointed Grand Patron of BAT-IG in September 2026. (ThisDayLive)
Adeniyi Tinubu, Deputy Director, Logistics and Operations of the APC 2027 Presidential Campaign Council, was also among those recognised at the event. The council’s published membership list confirms his position. (Punch Newspapers)
For Rigasa residents, the project represents more than an infrastructure intervention. The community already has a substantial electricity-distribution footprint, including existing 11kV and 33kV feeders, while Kaduna Electric’s current feeder-status information continues to list the Rigasa 11kV feeder among those serving the metropolis. Atoyebi said the project’s expected benefits extended beyond electricity supply to economic opportunity, stronger businesses, improved security and better livelihoods.
He described the intervention as an example of what he called “the politics of service” and “the politics of solution,” adding that it represented BAT-IG’s contribution to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
For a community that has waited years for a more reliable electricity infrastructure, the flag-off marks the beginning of a project facilitated by the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Ideological Group to convert that longstanding demand into physical infrastructure and, ultimately, more dependable power.
