Canadian gold developer, Amex Gold Mining has completed the portal and successfully blasted the first underground development round at its 100%-owned Perron gold project in Quebec, marking the official start of underground work at the site.
The company announced on September 2, 2026, that its underground mining contractor, CMAC-Thyssen, has begun development of the underground ramp following the blast.
The current development program is designed to advance to a vertical depth of approximately 235 metres, providing access to the high-grade Champagne zone and supporting the company's planned 40,000-tonne bulk sample program.
The bulk sample is intended to provide important information on mining conditions, grade continuity, dilution, reconciliation and metallurgical performance while further de-risking the future development of Perron.
"The first blast of the underground ramp is a significant milestone for Amex," said Victor Cantore, President and CEO of Amex Gold Mining. "The portal and ramp are being built to production-scale specifications, supporting both the bulk sample and future mine development. This work will give our team direct underground access to the deposit and represents an important step in the continued advancement and de-risking of Perron".
The Perron gold project is located in the territory of Valcanton in northern Quebec, approximately 110 kilometres north of Rouyn-Noranda. The project consists of 183 contiguous claims covering a surface area of 65.72 km² and hosts several zones of high-grade gold mineralization. The site benefits from excellent infrastructure, accessible by a year-round road, located just 30 minutes from an airport and approximately 6.5 km from the Town of Normétal.
Over the coming months, underground development will continue toward the Champagne zone, with development progress expected to provide a series of operational milestones as the ramp advances at depth.
