China Gold International Resources (TSX: CGG; HKEX: 2099) has resumed open-pit mining at its Chang Shan Hao (CSH) gold mine in Inner Mongolia, ending a nearly five-month suspension triggered by a localized slope instability event, the company announced on October 26, 2026.
Mining operations restarted in early October 2026, following the completion of key interim remediation works and the requisite filing with emergency management authorities. The company confirmed that the 2026 annual production guidance for CSH remains unchanged at 70,732 to 83,592 ounces of gold.
A localized slope instability occurred at the CSH mine on May 22, 2026. No casualties or equipment losses were reported. As a safety precaution, open-pit mining was suspended, while the processing plant continued to operate using existing low-grade ore stockpiles. The company subsequently engaged external geotechnical experts and professional organizations to conduct assessments and develop remediation plans.
By the end of September 2026, the company had completed the critical interim works necessary to support a restart. These included restoring the mine road system, removing loose material and hazardous rock masses, reinforcing the landslide body, and establishing drainage systems. Slope monitoring was maintained throughout the remediation period.
A third-party professional organization evaluated the effectiveness of the works and found that the slope geohazards affecting mining operations had been addressed, with the mine meeting the safety standards required for normal operations in compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
Mining resumed as planned in early October after the emergency management filing was completed.
During the suspension, the continued processing of low-grade stockpiles helped mitigate the impact on gold output. With open-pit mining now fully restored, CSH will blend freshly mined ore with stockpiled material to maintain stable delivery volumes and processing grades, while implementing ongoing safety risk controls.
The company said it is “confident in maintaining a stable production trajectory” based on the completed remediation and the resumption of mining, and will continue to monitor on-site conditions and subsequent engineering works.
In a related development, China Gold International has appointed SRK Consulting to prepare an independent NI 43-101 feasibility study on a potential underground block-caving operation at Chang Shan Hao. The study is separate from the open-pit restart and signals the company’s longer-term evaluation of the deposit’s underground potential.
CSH produced 96,816 ounces of gold in 2025. The mine is one of two operating assets for China Gold International, alongside the Jiama copper-gold polymetallic mine in Tibet, which produced 70,883 tonnes of copper and 61,218 ounces of gold in 2025.
